Welcome to Data Science for High School  (DS4HS)

DS4HS is a program that teaches High School students the basics of Data Science and computer programming. Data is the oil of the 21st century. As more devices become connected to the internet of things and collect more data, the significance of data is increasing at an exponential rate. These massive amounts of data are extremely valuable, however just like oil that value needs to be extracted and refined. That is why data scientists are considered the sexist occupation of the 21st century according to Harvard Business Review. 

Our mission is to lay a foundation of data science literacy in the next generation. That is what prompted us to create DS4HS. DS4HS is a program that teaches High School students the basics of Data Science and computer programming. This course will teach the students the basics of coding in python, interacting with the linux operating system, and utilizing data graphing and exploration tools. We will teach students how to use tools and services that will be crucial in almost every field. Those tools include: Amazon Web Services, Jupyter Notebooks, and Github. 

A DS4HS course is currently happening. Our course has nine high school students who are mostly from the D.C area. We have students from public schools such as Robinson, Yorktown, T.C Williams, South County, Chantilly, and a student from the Douglass Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville, Florida. In order to teach this course, we use a system called collaborate that truly enables the students to learn at an increased capacity. This system is depicted below.

We are excited to announce that we are offering another DS4HS course this summer! This summer course will be delivered with a live instructor in four hour sessions, four days per week over a four week period. Totalling 64 hours of live instruction, the cost of this summer course is $1,984.00 or $31.00 per hour . If the cost of this course is the only barrier a students faces in attending,  please have the student contact us. One thing that makes our course special is that it is live with actual instructors compared to other coding courses that just assign coursework with no real-time instructor interaction.
